Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is a procedure that removes the infected nerve in the tooth followed by a root filling to help prevent a future infection. There are several reasons why a tooth may need a root canal, the most common being extensive tooth decay that has caused an infection inside the nerve of the tooth. An infection in the nerve of the tooth may spread into the jaw. Infections in the tooth and jaw can cause significant pain and discomfort. After a successful root canal, you will be pain-free and the infection will heal.

The treatment is completed in 1-3 visits depending on the severity and spread of the infection. Your dentist will explain to you in detail about the procedure before beginning.

Root canal treatment is the only way to save an infected tooth.

Following the treatment, some teeth may need to have a crown placed to strengthen the remaining tooth and prevent tooth fracture. Our dentists will give you personalised advice specific to your tooth and overall oral health.

The alternative to saving your tooth is a tooth extraction which will leave a gap in your smile. You may want to consider tooth replacement options like a denture, bridge or implant.
